Hi, I have a what seems to be a common problem I see on here. I have an offer for a good job and they are pressuring me to let them know if I'll accept it ASAP. However, I went on a final interview for another job I like a lot better. They told me they would let me know in a week or two. In my experience, when someone is going to hire you they say something at the end of the 2nd (or final) interview; does anyone else think that's true? Did they tell you at the end of your interview? I don't want to put this job off for 2 weeks just so they can call me and tell me they're not interested. Any advice?

Thanks,

Mike

Well, I had the same problem just this week. I had an interview on Monday and they offered the job right on the spot - but I still had lots of apps out. The money was good, bonus included....but it was a long commute for me. I told them I would give them an answer on Friday (today, which was 5 business days.) Leave it to me to go on a wild job hunt during this week when most managers are on vacation :roll Actually, I was going to take a job in transplantation where I had been externing but decided to put out some apps for a new grad in the ICU where I REALLY wanted to work.

Well, I got another interview on Tuesday for a job I really wanted to work. The problem was that this employer was notoriously slow when hiring people. I told them I had another offer that I had to answer by Friday in hopes of speeding up the process. I went on an interview the same day they contacted me and wanted me to come back the next day for ANOTHER interview. I said, let's pretend it's tomorrow and do the second interview now. (Well, I said it jokingly and it worked :chuckle ) They did not hire me on the spot - said they had to check my references. I didn't hear from them the next day, but they called Thursday and said I had the job.

I guess, the point I am trying to make is put some time limits down for the job you REALLY want. Tell them you have another offer and set a time limit. I don't know about your neck of the woods, but here in Phoenix nurses are very much in demand. They are drooling to hire you. Put some time limitations in!
