New Grad interview experiences

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi,

I have heard from several classmates that hospitals/employers are trending toward asking scenario type questions during the employment interview process, and I was just wondering if any of you had this experience. If so, what type of questions were you asked? I find this interesting and would love to hear your interview stories.

Thanks!!

Do you know how long an interview for the Neuro-ICU position usually take??

Thank You :)

Here were some of mine for a new graduate residency program

-Tell me a little about yourself

- How would I handle conflict with coworkers- doctor, nurse, nurse assistant

- Where do I see myself in the next 5 years

- What made me want a job at this hospital and this unit

- Tell me about a time you had an ethical dilemma and how did you handle it

- Tell me about a difficult patient and how did you handle it

- What does being a nurse mean to you

- Tell me about some experiences that you have had in life and/or in the hospital that will make you an asset to our unit

- Your are faced with an unfamiliar situation while working, what would you do

- What do you hope to accomplish during your time in this program

- What areas of nursing are you interested in and why

Specializes in Behavioral Health.

I had the usual questions of "what was your best and worst experience.

The one that tripped me up was "what would you do if you're working the night shift and your patient says they are dying, they literally feel like they're dying?

Well I said I would check vitals and do an assessment and so forth. the answer she wanted was I would get someone with more experience and have them check out the patient. The patient is experiencing "impending doom".
