New grad in las vegas

Nurses New Nurse

Published

hello, im a new grad and just received my license. i recently moved to las vegas. i am still searching for the right job. i just want to know what the average starting pay is for new grads (RN BSN) in the area. i have one year experience as a CNA in a telemetry unit.

thanks!

p.s. i'm still looking for an employer. i have tried almost all the hospitals in the area but they all seem to not be interested with new grads. whats the deal? i thought they are short with nurses.

I work north of you (Reno, NV) and my base pay is $25/hr; with my noc differential, I am making $27.41/hr. The hospital in Carson City pays about $2/hr and also offers weekend differential (which my hospital does not). And I'm quite certain that the other two hospitals in the area pay a bit more, but I also know that the nurses there have been getting "called off" due to the hospital's inability to pay the nurses (or so they say). My friend who graduated with me back in May 2005 is only able to get two 12-hour shifts a week at the Carson City hospital. Apparently, when they built their new, beautiful facility, they overbudgeted and lost $3 million dollars last month. Who's paying for that? The nurses.

I'm quite happy where I'm at....I've got a very supportive supervisors and fellow nurses. I love my unit and have no plans on going anywhere quite yet. Yes, I could make more money at the facility closer to home, but the work environment would not be as pleasant. And that means a LOT to me.
