I am trying to get into the groove of studying again after being out of school for 9 months. I need microbiology and I am just struggling to decide whether going the online class route or just the exam based route. In one hand I do not want to study for all this material and fail in the exam based, but then again, I'm not sure how I will do in the online class either. Please help! Which route have you all have gone through? How did you study for it? Thanks in advance!

Personally I prefer the EC online courses, BUT the exam is doable! I used vangonotes dot com, and looked up the required textbook. It's a downloadable mp3 or ipod audio lectures on the key points of micro. I listed to it probably 3-4 times in my car over the course of 2-3 weeks. I also got Micro the Easy Way and read that book cover to cover while following along in the content guide. I got an A on that exam and Micro is NOT a strong point for me.

For Micro, you will want to take it in an in class lecture. It gets very detailed about everything. Some professors expect you to learn down to the exact spelling (not even being off by one letter). For the viruses if I spelled one letter wrong. The whole answer was wrong. Pick wisely! I got a B so happy Micro is over!

EC's Micro exam wasn't bad. I got an A on it. However, it doesn't come with a lab component, so if you know you want to continue your education down the line (and your future school may require sciences + labs), then an in-class version may be best for you. Honestly I didn't think EC's exam was hard. I thought it was going to be, but I guess I studied well. :)
