Has anyone been tested out of the Nursing Research course?

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I am currently enrolled in the RN to BSN program at TESC. I recently found out that I can test out of 2 required classess for this nursing program. The 2 classes are Research in Nursing and Community focused Nursing. I was told by the nursing advisor at TESC that Excelsior College use to be in partnership with TESC so they stil have an agreement that if nursing students want so to get tested out of these 2 classes at Excelsior, TESC would accept the full credits as completion for these 2 courses. Sounds like a great deal to save time and money, but not sure if is worth doing it this way? Has anyone taken the "test out option and how was your experience with it? Any feedback is much appreciate it.

I helped a good friend of mine study for the RIN exam. I took the course because I was uncomfortable with the "one shot at a grade" approach (did well on the course). My friend used my RIN course textbook along with study materials from The College Network bought second hand and the EC practice exams. He was experienced with EC exams from going through their ADN program. He made an A.

The exam includes a section where you write an analysis of a piece of research using elements you should know from the study guide. The bad part of this is that due to this free response area the test takes up to 6 weeks to score. They seriously take 6 weeks to get the results.

Another FB friend has failed the Community-Focused Nursing exam twice. Everyone else I've know who took it made a C. Maybe it's a super tough exam or possibly my friends were having off days.

I see what you mean about the one shot deal but, on the other hand, it's saving time and money. Thanks for the details about this test. The multiple choice portion of the exam is pretty straight forward, but, just not sure about the analysis writing part of the exam. I may just end up taking the class and take the time to complete it, one way or another, I shall get thru this tooooo and this too shall pass....

Thanks for the info about the exam....just not sure on the part of the exam that we have to write an analysis. I may just end up taking the course.
