What is the income potential of Footcare nursing?

Nurses Entrepreneurs

Published

I am in Nursing School currently but have been in the Medical Field for 14 years as an Army Combat Medic, Civilian EMT, Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. I have been thinking about what I may want to do as an RN and think I will start with Emergency Dept. because I have always enjoyed the trauma side of medicine. However, I was curious as to what opportunities might be out there for additional income as well as Nurse Entrepreneurial opportunities and ran across this thread. This aspect of care sounds really interesting. I am in Alabama and need to do some more research as to the legal aspects and licensure requirements for businesses of this nature in my state, but, I was wondering if anyone here can give me an idea, roughly as to the income potential and Marketing strategies?

I have just started my foot care business in Alabama. I have been open for almost a month and seen several patients. I am currently marketing the service in my area by making visits to physician offices, senior groups, networking groups, assisted livings, pharmacies and I have some upcoming health fairs. I think once things get going I will be able to make a good income. Some things to keep in mind….In Alabama you will have to have a physician to over see your practice, you will have to have your policy and procedures approved by the ABN, for a patient to receive services you will have to obtain a physicians order. Currently I think I am the only nurse in Alabama with type of business. Another to keep in mind is starting in 2015, you will be required to have a BSN to sit for the certification exam. It took me about a year to get things started with doing research, attending a class, taking the exam and getting things approved with the ABN. I spent approximately $3,500 education and supplies to get started. I would like to connect with you and talk more. You can email me at [email protected].
