student nurse precepting in ED...advice?

Specialties Emergency

Published

I'll finish intermediates at the end of April and will have an "off" summer before 202 starts in August. My school offers a summer elective preceptorship, which I have registered for. I selected ED as my preceptorship site since it's an area I'm interested in and we never set foot there during school. What should I study/practice/learn beforehand that will help me not feel like I'm in the way/not helpful/a bumbling fool? THANKS!

I did a prn gig at a place where everyone got lunch breaks. There was absolutely no other teamwork or help and the care sucked so I quit. My main ER there are no organized lunch breaks, just eat when you can, but we have great teamwork and the pt care is much better. Every place is different.

If I could like this twice I would! You need to know what should be done and why, and ALWAYS be ready for what will come next.
