Recommend an Excellent Emergency Nursing Textbook?

Hi!

Just finished my third orientation shift in an ED nearby. So far,I'm feeling that the likelihood that this will be a good fit for me is ~ 70/30 in favour. I currently work in Post Anesthetic Recovery,and had 20+ yrs in ICUs before that. I am loving the stimulus of the huge amount of new learning coming at me -thank goodness because this is a steeeep learning curve!!

Can you recommend the ultimate text for ED Nurses?

Sheehy's Emergency Nursing: Principles and Practice is fabulous.

we use Sheey's also and it is referenced in ER policies.

you might also check out emergency nursing secrets by kathleen oman, triage nursing secrets by polly zimmermann and emergency nursing procedures by jean proehl. you won't likely be doing triage for awhile, but the zimmermann text still has a lot of great information in it.

The online course is great -- it was part of my ED nursing fellowship in 2008. :) (Even greater: I didn't pay for it, my employer did! :D)

I use Sheehy's Emergency Nursing: Principles and Practice and another medical text, An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine Guide for Practitioners in the Emergency Department by Mahadevan/Garmel.

Although it is a physician's textbook, I find it invaluable for our assessments and knowledge as well.
