Pediatric suicide attempts

I just had back to back pediatric suicide attempts this week. One was an overdose and one was by hanging. Has everyone been seeing an increase in these cases? We normally get plenty of adults in, with a ped coming in every now any then, but they seem like they have been coming more often.

Ouch, that's rough. I know that pedi suicide attempts have been on the rise in general, thankfully I've never seen a pedi attempt, just SI. I hope they both made it.. I'm curious to see the responses from others..

One was a hanging. CPR was started on scene by EMS and was down about 30 minutes pta. We worked him about 20 more and got him back but there was no neuro activity. We flew him out to a hospital with better peds services and heard he later died that night. The other one took 10 grams of Tylenol so we started acetadote and transferred to a psych facility.

When you say peds are you talking "true peds"--5-13 or "peds" 14-17????

The hanging was 12 and other one was 13. Most we see end up being like 16-17, but the 12 year old kind of got to me.

Wow....that's young.....thankfully I saw more trauma than suicides for that age.
