Hello and I'm a new RN grad and will be beginning my new job in the ER in a couple of weeks. Any recommendations on how I should prepare? I have began to look over EKG interpretations to start. Thanks for the advice.

Always be willing to ask for help! That's the best advice I can give. Also, be aware that every nurse has a different way to do everything. Watch them all and then learn your way. Be sure to not go off orientation until you are ready-even if you have to fight for it!

Finally, RELAX you'll do fine as long as you always ask for help when you aren't sure!

Welcome aboard!!!!!! Will need to have CC course, ALCS, PALS, NRP, TNCC but they will come. Ekg's are good. I have a basic arrhythmia course and ABG interpretation on computer discs that I could burn copies and mail them to you if you need them(PM me with your name and address and i can get them out to you this week. When I first started(I was an experienced floor nurse with varied background) but bought myself an ER Checkmate which is very good as a handy reference guide to working in the ER which you cah even carry around in hip pouch or maybe scrub pockets. Let me know....

PS; I am currently one of the 6 charge nurses in my dept and am also a preceptor and have percepted newbies into capable ER nurses in the past.
