My 1st night experience!

Yesterday was my first time working nights in my 1.5 yrs of being a RN. Got the call around 1230 if I could cover night shift....coworker had her son at Childrens hospital. I said Yes. OHH ..by the way your going to be Charge nurse Since your the only MICN.

One thing way different in our ER is that in the morning its usually slower..at night..This place was rocking. 6/8 nurses were travelers, 3 where LVNS. Had a 450pound altered DKA pt. who was in leathers who tied up one RN. Had one guy who said he gotten some bad Heroin earlier in the day which caused his LEFT SIDE TO BURN!!! Labs were taking 4-5 hrs to get back due to a machine being down...

Were getting slammed and Heroin guy is sticking his head out the door..needing to use the rest room, not able to settle down. This guy ends up getting being admitted to tele. He gets a ativan order and I go and Cover the LVN who is taking care of him. He is off the monitor now. I walk in this guy is layin down for the first time tonight. Problem he is half way thru the railing and HE has Coded %^%$#. 30 min later have a 1yr old who is working way to hard to keep her sats in the 80's, She gets tubed. Los Angeles Childrens flew down and picked her up...THEY ROCK!

So much more to tell...I Can say this NIGHT CREW ROCK!
