I've had this particularly severe Downs Syndrome pt several times for seizures from a nursing home. Last night I had him again for the last time. He presented with extrnal pacing after a seizure with Brady in the 20s-30s. He stabilized and went to the ICU on tele. He had another seizure and Brady'd down to being paced again. His heart gave up and he was being fully paced but unresponsive. His family made the decision after a while and let him go.
He loved apple juice or warm coffee with lots of sugar. He didn't remember my name but said "it's YOU!" whenever he saw me.
I've dealt with death before and don't know why this particular pt death has hit me so very hard but it did.

Sorry for your loss. You probably had a deeper relationship with this patient than you realized. Some deaths hit us harder than others.

Sometimes you just connect more with some patients. I'm sorry for your loss.
