I'm looking into pursuing the DNP at Capella next year when I finish up my MSN. I currently work as a faculty member (60%) in a BSN program and I love what I do. However, my long-term goals are to teach online. I want to be able to stay at home with kids, but still be able to do what I love.

However, I already have $45k in debt from my BSN and MSN. I feel if I go another $40k in debt for my DNP that all my time working will be spent paying off debt and never actually making any money (which we need).

I looked into the faculty loan repayment program. I am not eligible now because I do not (and cannot) work full-time. If I am lucky enough to get a full-time teaching job at an online program, that could work. But if not... what are my other options?

I already get a 10% discount at Capella and a $5,000 alumni scholarship. But that brings tuition down to around $37k right now. Does anyone else have any other ideas? My current employer only offers tuition reimbursement if you do their DNP program (and if you are full-time) and they only accept APRNs for their DNP.

Look at Touro Nevada's program. It is specifically for academic educators- and the tuition for the entire program is $15k. 100% online, too.

I know my current employer won't accept a BSN/MSN/DNP that isn't CCNE accredited for pay increases, tenure, promotion, etc. I know why it isn't CCNE accredited and it makes sense, but is that common for lack of accreditation to hurt you in terms of getting a job as a professor?

It's not hurting me. In fact, the program director for Indiana's largest nursing program just completed this degree with Touro.
