Duke DNP? Anyone?

Hi all--

I am interested in Duke's MSN-DNP option for working professionals. Can anyone speak to the program as far as rigors, assignments, support, etc? Do you have to have a DNP topic in place before starting? I am a new grad CRNA and would hate to go in as a new employee and try to implement a change of practice. Just wondering how others are doing it. Thanks!

I am halfway through my MSN and plan to go on with my DNP. So far, they have been WONDERFUL. It is not super stressful, it really is meant for working nurses. I love all the instructors so far. There are SO many opportunities for seminars which lend themselves to great ideas for projects. My DNP would take me one more calendar year to finish after my MSN. I am in the Informatics program, not an advanced practice nurse, but everyone that I have talked to is happy.

Thanks for replying. My concern was that as a new post-master DNP student I would have to come up with a policy change capstone in my place of employment where I am a new hire. It's hard to go in as a newbie and change policy. I was honestly looking at a more clinically focused DNP--which doesn't really exist at many schools. Columbia seems to have a clinical focused DNP, so I will look into that program as well.

How generous is Duke's Financial aid package?

As a Duke employee, I get assistance as a benefit. It is expensive, but they are great at working with you.

Did you proceed with the Duke DNP Program?I too am interested in the DNP here, but its very difficult to choose a program with all of the options out there!
