Any family psych DNP folks at University of South Alabama

I was just wondering if there are any people currently in the DNP for psych NP at USA?

I have a MSN generalist degree and I'm currently in a post master's program for adult/gero NP at the University of Colorado. I'm in the second semester, and it's going ok.

However, about 7 months ago I started working as a psych RN at an inpatient facility, and I realized that I love psych! So I am thinking about switching concentrations into the psych NP program, since I have a doctorate in mind as a personal goal, I am thinking about going the DNP route.

I am thinking about the USA program for it's flexibility to do it part time and it's affordability. I attended a private school for my MSN, and the debt I have from that is insane, so I want to be able to do a program I can pay for out of pocket as I go or at least keep future borrowing to a minimum.

I would like to hear from folks who are currently in the program. How do you like it? Where do you look to find preceptors? How do you think the job outlook is?

Any insight would be very appreciated.

It seems as though you and I are looking for some similar information. Although, I would need my MSN first and then the DNP, I have yet to find anyone giving current information on the USA program. I too have looked into the program due to the online option, part time schedule and the fact that I chose a private university for my second bachelors. I did not qualify for assistance due to it being a second degree and have ridiculous debt from it! The debt is about the only thing that has been holding me back from jumping right into another degree. It seems the loan amounts stay the same and never decrease no matter how much I pay on them.

I'll keep an eye on your post, but if you get any info please pass it along my way.

If you do a search of University of Southern Alabama, you will find they have a great reputation. There are many post on here regarding them. I am sure if you do a search, you will find DNP posts.

USA, from what I read, requires at least 2 years of experience in your applicable program to start clinicals, so keep that in mind. I don't have 2 years psych, so I can't go there :-(

I currently have 1 year of psych RN experience, and would have exactly two years of psych RN experience when the clinical portion of the program begins. I applied and I am awaiting a decision, so we'll see what happens.
