What is normal drain output for post operative radical prostatectomy paitient?

Hi. I'm a nursing student who worked in urology ward. I saw radical prostatectomy patients came with a drain from recovery. When I checked their drain chart there was no guidance about expected drain output or what's abnormal drain output. What is normal drain output for these patients?

I don't think there's a magic number but one of our urologists likes us to send the JP fluid for creatinine if there's more than 100cc out in 8 hrs. If you feel the output is really excessive, you can ask your CN & possibly call the doc if you're really unsure. I've never had to call the doc in the middle of the night b/c of excessive output though...

It's also important to look at the type of fluid being drained, for example frank blood, serous or urine

Add on expected time line for drainage And document the physician's response in the chart so that the following nurse doesn't have to worry the doctor as well
