Have a question for anyone familiar with this.I have been plagued by recurrent pyelonephritis/utis for a long time.Have had a uti this time off and on since june.No amt of abt tx is fully resolving this.I went to a urologist last week finally after the primary feels it is time.I am to be scheduled for a Cysto Hydro Dilation Cystogram RPG's.That is what is on the order.I thought it was a 10 min office procedure, but no.not my luck.I have to go to the surgery center,go under general anes.,pre/op clearance. The md made it sound easy. Then the receptionist told me all this other stuff.Im scared to death. What is this? What does general anesthesia mean?A little versed or really put me under?Im not familiar with anything like this.

The procedure can be performed under IV sedation where you will not have to be completely put to sleep. It involves looking in your bladder with a small scope and injecting some contrast to your kidneys. Also filling your bladder with some contrast. They hydr dilitation part is where the extend your bladder to maximum capacity. This could be a little painful if you are awake. You will have some burning on urination post-procedure and may even see some blood. I would hope that your doctor had discussed this with you. Good Luck! Sounds like you need the procedure.

I had this done under complete anesthesia because they did a biopsy of the bladder as well.It didn't really hurt till the next day.I'll never have another one ever again.Urinated a lot of blood and had to have a lot of abt tx.I thought he had explained everything the appt prior to the procedure.I freaked out when the receptionist made me get all this lab work, ekg, etc prior to this and told me i would be there for about 4 hours. All he told me was it was a quick 5 min procedure.I demanded he explain everything to me before he was going to touch me or I was going to cancel it all.I was next.He just loved that but he did explain all without throwing a fit.He and the nurses did neglect to tell me some incontinence might happen for a couple of weeks.I thought I was going to die the first time it happened. He found it amusing :(

Go for the sedation at the very least, my friend had this procedure and said it was painful.
