Has anyone taken the CNN recently? How hard was it? I feel very confident about Hemodialysis and Renal Failure Topics. But I am unsure about Peritoneal Dialysis and Transplant. I even specialize in PD on my acute team, but there are just so many details that I wouldn't know unless I worked in outpatient PD. Any recommendations for studying? Words of wisdom for how detailed things get with PD and Transplant?

Is your employer requiring it? I was somewhat interested in taking it but there are no review courses that I have found, ANNA sells a very thin (46 pages) review book that is essentially useless, and I have yet to meet anyone who has taken it. None of the local employers here require it. The AACN core review for CCRN is 206 pages.

Contrast that with the CCRN exam for ICU. Dozens of excellent review courses both online and in person, some ICU's require it which increases demand, respect from both doctors and fellow nurses. The CNN (and the CDN) have a long way to go before I would consider spending the money to take it.

My employer isn't requiring it, but suggesting it to up their credentials on our acute team. We have 2 CNNs on our team and I know a couple of others from the past. I won't get a raise or anything but since I do some education, they are paying for the test and everything.

As far as studying goes, I have the core curriculum, which is in outline format and I don't like it. My boss gave me some notes and articles that he found helpful when he was studying. I also bought the mometrix flash card system for CNN studying, which was $50 and so far helpful. I paid for the practice test on the NNCC website and got a fair score, passing. I once organized a review session in my local chapter , it was put on by a nephrology Np in the area. But I am on my own here, trying to focus on transplant and PD. I already have the CDN, but my employer wanted me to do a little more. They want as many certified nurses as possible.

You already have the knowledge base to pass this test. After you pass offer a review course and charge 100 bucks per person. If you were local I would pay.

Haha that's not a bad idea! Except I don't care for teaching ... Don't think I could teach for 8 hours!
