Potential Psych tech for Pelican Bay State Prison

Specialties Correctional

Hi all,

Are there any LPT's that works for Pelican Bay State Prison here in CA? I have been scheduled for an interview for an LPT position, and I would like to know what their typical day is like? Is the pay worth the 8 hours relocation? I am a newly licensed PT with very little experience, and I was ecstatic to have been offered an interview. If so, can ya share how your interviews went? I am so nervous. Were the questions asked difficult to answer? Thank you so much...

I am a travel nurse that goes to Pelican Bay. Psych Techs pass most of the meds and hold groups, most of them liked their jobs.

I have worked in prisons in several states and the security at PBSP is amazing! I am safer there than at any other prison I have ever worked at.

What people don't like is the isolated area. No shopping, little to do unless you like the outdoors. It is hell to fly out of there because of the fog and expense.

I love it there and spend most of my time at the ocean or in the redwoods. Rent is very cheap for a decent place to live $500-$750. Get the CalOre life-flight insurance for $100/yr as the hospital is small and if you have anything critical you will be flown out.

If you like city living it isn't for you unless you need to get your foot in the door and transfer after a year.

Thank you so much for your input. It really enlightens me for my interview. I was very shocked and surprised when the HR called me for an interview. I mean, I'm a new tech with very little experience, ranked on the bottom. I was pretty much hopeless because most facilities required at least a year of experience. I hope for find more reviews. Thanks again.
