I'm about to finish my BSN, and I'd love to hear feedback about Yale New Haven as an employer of new nursing grads.
Also, a friend of mine told me that nurses at YNH have just been unionized. Is this true?

Also I work night shift and the ratios vary but can be 5-9 patients sometimes with no PCA. Days can be 3-6 depending on staffing and PCAs are always on day shift.

I work in adult psych, I normally have 6-8 patients, totally managable in psych as we only carry one "total care" patient at most. Psych is another ballgame than med-surg for instance. Every unit in the hospital is different. ICU's have 1-2 patients (again, depends on acuity). So, I can only tell you my experience. I have spoken to other psych RN's who have up to 15 OR MORE patients(in other hospitals)! Forget it, not safe. But my point was, the hospital seems invested in reasonable ratios. My advice is (for what it's worth), spend a day on any unit you are seriously thinking of working on. Good luck and let me know if you join us!!
Mish thanks so much for replying. I will let you know as I should hear from them in 2wks for a shadowing position. I will be shadowing two floors a med and surgical foor. Thanks again
