UConn CEIN/BS 2017

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Hi all,

I saw a great thread from last year about UConn's 2016 CEIN/BS applicant pool and thought I'd start a new thread for applicants in the 2017 cycle.

I applied for the January 31st deadline. Based on everything I read on last year's thread, I'm thinking I'll hear back anytime between the first week of March and the last week of April - trying to stay patient! I am still working on 2 prerequisite courses but they should be done at the end of March. We'll see how the outstanding courses may affect my decision date. Stamford is my first choice for campus since I currently live/work in NYC and it's not too far away from where I currently am.

I'm excited to hear from anyone else applying to the program and what your application experience is like. Good luck to everyone!

KO_27 do u have to let them know by march 9th too? that's soo soon haha

Congratulations! Yes March 9th. Seemed shocking at first glance, but I am all for getting this process underway :)

Stamford! Look forward to meeting everyone at orientation.

Stamford! Look forward to meeting everyone at orientation.

Congratulations!

I got my letter in yesterday for Avery Point. Congrats to everybody else :)

Congrats everyone! I'm in also at Stamford.

For those of you that have been accepted, would you guys mind sharing a bit of your academic background? GPA, job exp? Did you have any outstanding prereq when got the acceptance letter? I don't have a really good GPA but have A's on prereqs so far, one more left. I'm applying for the June deadline and I'm so anxious!!!

Hi 2b, focus on finishing strong on your prereqs - sounds like you've been doing great! From what I gathered there is no "formula" for admission. Write some compelling answers to the admissions questions, and get some good recommendations - and don't worry about that undergrad GPA if it was over the minimum requirement. I had a "meh" undergrad GPA, a strong GPA from a related MA degree, a 4.0 in prereqs all from CT CC except for stats/research which was covered by my previous education, and applied with no outstanding prereqs. I have been out of the work force for a while, recently returned, and all work experience has been in health care (direct patient care and research). That is my story, try not to stoke your anxiety with comparisons - just put your best foot forward and it will shine through. Everyone has a different path, especially with second degree programs. Best of luck to you!!

Hi 2BRN-LD!! I just graduated from my undergrad in May 2016 with a BS in psychology! My overall GPA was like a 3.7 i believe. I have a lot of experience working with teens and adults with disabilities and helping them with daily living skills (part of the reason i'm interested in nursing). I also had an internship in the ED with a psychologist but always floated around to shadow nurses, doctors, ect. and that really opened my eyes to nursing! I'm still currently taking my last two prereqs ( will be done in a week :) ), for that I have received A's and couple B's. Overall I suggest staying strong on your prereqs, like youve been doing, and get good letters of recommendations from people who know how much hard work you put into school and who believe in you. Good luck :)

HI EVERYONE AND CONGRATS ON THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED! I am a current CEIN 2016 student at Stamford and I thought I would let you guys know that I am happy to answer any questions that you may have :))

Thanks cvt08002,

I have so many questions.

I work for UConn health center now, and I'm wondering if I could keep my job while still doing the program. I emailed a program coordinator, and she said that the classes are only on Monday- 8-430 or something like that. Is this true? Would you have the rest of the week off to study, or are there clinicals during each semester?

Is it just the Stamford and Waterbury campuses that do the program? When do the programs begin? It's twice a year?

What do you have to have as a GPA to get into the program?

Does class size vary per year? Is it competitive to get into?

How are the teachers at the Waterbury Campus?

Thanks!

@wanderawake I can't answer all of your questions, but it sounds like you can keep your job as long as you can balance that and the schoolwork since you don't have something going on every day. The campuses that do the program are Waterbury, Avery Point, Storrs, and Stamford. It begins every January of the next year. There are 3 review dates: the ends of January, June, and August. You need at least a 3.0 gpa to get in, and you need at least a B in the pre-reqs, C for stats. The class size does vary per year. For 2017 they're expanding the class size a little bit. However, it is competitive!

Hi everyone,

Congrats to those of you who have been accepted! My application was complete for the June 30th deadline on the 13th. I still have two pre-reqs left but I have all A's so far. I'm hoping for the best! For those of you who found out already how did they let you know?
