Online Courses

I have a question about online courses. When you apply to a nursing school what online courses would be excepted? What are some of the good online colleges? Also, is it better to just take the classes at a school or is it better to take classes online? I would like to know because I have to take pre-requisites before applying to Nursing School and if I could take some of my pre-reqs online I would like too. If anyone can help, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Nope I got it that time thanks.

Remember there is an additional $50 per course charge for online courses at Clovis, above the tuition cost. Still cheaper by far, but I didn't expect that when making my budget.

What is the name of the other online college that you saidin another post that was less expensive?

you are right about the extra $50 per online class, but for 6 credits its $220.00, and that includes the extra $100.00. The community Colleges in CT are $755.00 for 6 credits and thats in state tuition. The only school I found cheaper for out of state was San Juan college, its wait for it.... $40.00 per credit hour or $460.00 for 12 credits.... I am sure they add an extra $50.00 for online. But when I asked about that, they (clovis, anyway) has a out of state student scholarship.... so they can help with the extra $50.00 if you need help. But honestly, you will get all the help you need if you just do the fasfa forms. Remember you can still get a Pell grant and that at least $4000.00 or less per year, which for Clovis is plenty. I just received my refund check for $500.00 on Monday of last week. They sent them out the day of the last class. Amazing.....

Hey Everyone -

I am signed up for a course at Clovis and wanted to sign up for a math at San Juan, but San Juan online courses sign up very fast and most of them were filled. So if you want to sign up for San Juan for the spring, start looking in November.

But I found a great school where I can take the Math. It is San Diego City College. I was looking specifically for math, but they have alot of other courses as well.

San Diego has a Math Center which offers all levels of math in two different ways. One is the standard math online, but the cool thing is that you can start the class at any time during a semester, work at your own pace, and finish at any point. Good if you want to go faster or slower than the usual class.

They also have a cool way to take math, especially if you want a refresher course in a certain level or specific topic. For About $20 you can sign up for a "unit" and then do as much or as little of it as you feel you need.

Also, no books with these courses - it is all online!!!!:chuckle

I looked at San Diego city College, you are right about the $20.00 per unit, but when I read the fine print, its $183.00 per unit for out of state... back to the problem of more money....

Oh and about San Juan College or even Clovis for that matter, if the class is booked, just call admissions and have them override it. Thats what I did for the A&P class, it was over booked but because it was online they just made more room.

I have to admit I was excited at first, but the money is really a downer... New Mexico is by far the best for the price.

Okay, as most of you know the LPN evening program starts in Jan 2009 in Danbury... I am kinda thinking about it, only because it would feel like I am doing something about nursing instead of dancing around it... not to mention I am not sure how long I can work part time, go to school full time without making any real money. I am the sole provider for my family. Tuition for my two kids are about $7000.00 per year and thats not including my tuition. Plus I just brought a house (it was cheaper than renting) so I am ready to be out there....not to mention my age.... so ... should I apply for the night program or keep going down this road for the nursing degree?? Any advice??

Regi

Sorry you are right, its $20 per unit for non residents too!!! I didnt see the " for non resident too" Whoo HOooo, I will checking the classes out.... thanks!!!

Regi

Regi you are right about that fee; I was just coming on here to add that to my post! What a bummer! I know about the evening class, but I am going to wait until the January 2010 day class I think because Danbury is so far from me. Good luck though!

I think she said take the accuplacer. Sorry its late and I could be reading wrong but i think what was meant is that if you already took the course and they wont transfer, CT Community College will let you take an accuplacer test (its not clep) its a placement test. If you show that you pass their intermediate algebra which i think is MAT 136 and 137 then you don't have to take a math class to qualify for the nursing program. So if the credit wont transfer, just take the placement test and prove you know your algebra :).

hi Regi, you have no idea what a gold mine it was to read all your info. I have so many gen eds to do because my high school classes are too old and i didn't have money nor time to go to a community college here since all my funding is in lincoln for march 09. I will call clovis today thanks so very much!

Are you just getting your gen eds out of the way? are you working on an lpn or RN in clovis or here in CT because I think I read you got in to Kaynor (congrats if its true)!

Hope you don't mind me asking for advice on what gen eds are good in clovis. I am thinking english, psy, college math, sociology, and maybe bio. May i pm you when the feature is available to me?

Hi Regi, did you have to take an accuplacer test for math etc in Clovis or did they just let you choose what classes you could take? Thanks :)

hey blue,

PM me and I will tell you all......

Regi
