UCDHSC or Regis? Need Your Opinion, Please!

Hello All,

This is my first posting and a perfect time to ask everyones opinion. A little background on me: I completed all my prerequisites at Front Range Community College with a 3.97 GPA and an associate degree. I have been accepted into UCDHSC (Spring 08) AND Regis University's (Fall 07) Traditional BSN programs. Both are awesome schools and I would be proud to graduate from either, but I cannot decide which one. Besides the huge difference in tuition cost (Regis being more than double), any opinions on either school? If you had a choice, why would you choose one over the other? Please, all opinions welcome! Just FYI, I have to complete 6-9 additional credits at Regis during the program...is this feasible?

Thanks for your input.

I will be attending UCHSC in June...I looked at Regis but the cost was just not reasonable so I ended up not even applying. Also, private schools are sometimes less inclined (or simply have less access) to provide financial aid. Of course, the opposite can also be true as they may have more private donors. My first degree was from a private school and I got a really good financial aid package. That being said, all my research indicates that they are both really good schools and it's probably just a matter of personal opinion. Have you visited the campuses yet? Good luck and congrats on your acceptances!

I am just finishing up my BSN here at Regis, it's a great program. Yes, the tuition is high, but the education is wonderful. I am on finanical aid here, mostly through loans, but have three scholarships which help me. Chances are with your GPA, they will probably offer you a Transfer Scholarship (small in the scheme of things, but every bit helps, right?). Pleae PM me if I can be of further help to you!

Good Luck!

Have you visited the campuses yet?

Yes, the one on Colorado Blvd., but I was told they will be at the new campus at Fitzsimmons by the time I start the program. Thanks for the input! ;)

Tough choice! Both are excellent schools. I started at UCHSC this semester and am really enjoying it. The instructors are great, they're helpful, easy to get along with and they're set on doing everything they can to help each student to succeed. I also looked into Regis and opted not to apply because of the cost, that's really the only "bad" thing I've heard about that school.

Best of luck to you in which ever choice you make!! (the new Fitz campus is AWSOME, the SON is making the final move at the end of fall semester)

No kidding, I was told that the cost for the two year program is $56K (tuition, books, misc. fees) PLUS the cost of 9 additional credits required for transfers...pushing it to about $60K. This is about 3 times the cost of UCDHSC!

I feel fortunate to have been accepted to Regis considering they only let 7 transfers into the traditional program this semester...but financially I'm leaning towards CU.

Regis is an excellent school, and that would be my vote, but I would never be able to afford their traditional program. (Luckily the CHOICE program is *only* $500/SH!). Congrats on your graduation from FRCC. That's where I am transferring from as well; I just finishing my last semester.

Will you be driving out to Fitzsimmons every day? That was a deal-breaker for me. I did that once already, when I went to design school at Platt in Aurora.

Best of luck with whatever you choose!

I don't know how often I would have to drive out to what is now called the "Anschutz Medical Campus," but I hear it is an amazing facility. At least they will have off street parking, ha! Good luck to you too! ;)

I graduated from the Accelerated BSN program at Regis, the intense one-year program for those who already have a degree. I was impressed with the overall program and the instructors. There is no reason to think that the traditional program would be any different...including the cost!

That said, even if I did have a great experience at Regis, it would be hard for me to stomach that much of a difference in cost vs. UCHSC. Honestly, both places have a great reputation in this area. You really can't go wrong with either place. With Regis requiring three extra classes in the summr, along with an already higher financial cost (three times the cost of UCHSC you say?), I would have to ask myself: am I going to get three times the value out of Regis vs. UCHSC? Smaller classroom sizes? Better locations for clinical placements? Better support for students? Also, does the financial aid package from Regis vs. UCHSC close that gap a bit?

Again, you really can't go wrong with either place. It's just a matter of value for the money you'd be paying and if you feel you would get that much more out of it.

Agreed. I am being offered a transfer scholarship at Regis but it isn't enough to make a huge difference in the tuition. So, I've decided that CU is the best option for me.

I'm very grateful to have been given this opportunity and I am looking forward to UCDHSC's traditional BSN program in the Spring of 2008.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
