HI,

Was wondering if any of you had your interview yet for the Fall 2010 cohort yet? If so how'd it go, and how was the HESI?

:)

Hi, I am starting in July at DSON. I had my interview back in Oct. and took the HESI in November. The interview was more informational and I was given a tour of the facility. I was worried about taking the HESI but it wasn't that bad. If you go over the study guide you will be fine. Good Luck and let us know how both of them go for you!

I go for my interview tomorrow afternoon. Not sure when I'll take the HESI but likely the week after next as I can't get there next week for it with dh out of town. When is your interview?

My interview is April 22nd and HESI is the next day Fri. 23, so we may be taking the test on the same day. I had to schedule it all on the same trip, I'm flying out from San Francisco. Will you be commuting from Littleton? How far is that from Denver? We'll be exploring the city and hopefully finding a neighborhood we like.

Hi!

It went great. It was pretty much strictly informational and a tour. State of the art hospital simulations, etc. We discussed accreditation quite a bit at the beginning. I was informed the HLC 2nd meeting, which is accreditation is October and that they did not want to have the NLN come out the same month so that will be in January 11'. I care about all that but not like some. So I'm taking Patho this summer at ACC so the first quarter will consist of 3-3.5 short days and then quarter 2-5 is 2-2.5 days not including clinicals. I was told that school hours could be from 7am-9pm M-Thur and Fri or Sat from 8-6-clinicals could be 7 days a week 24/7 with most being within a 10 mile radius but a chance of some as far as Ft. Collins, Ft. Morgan or the Springs. You get clinical schedule 7 days prior and schedule for school 3 weeks prior-roughly. They wouldn't take my nutrition from 2003 so I won't get to skip that in quarter 2 (I'll be in the ADN) Told me the basics-10% drop just to drop, 30% run into daycare issues and drop and 60% of the people that drop are due to work and money issues. I haven't worked since 2002 out of the home. I feel happy I won't be working at the same time.

I go back on the 30th for the HESI. I was given a study booklet that looks super basic. I took all the practice questions last night and had no problems. I'm so busy finishing the spring semester of gen ed and recovering from a&p repair I had last month..it's been loads of fun lol.

Thanks for the info:)

Why didn't they take your nutrition?

I won't be working either but my husband will, and we'll have our daughter in day care full time, so hopefully it'll go smoothly as long as we can figure out how to pay for the school. Will you be commuting from Littleton? any suggestions on where to live in denver with a family? On their website, it mentioned that all the books, 2 scrubs etc where included in the tuition- was this discussed? Best of luck on the HESI, I bought the book about 1 week ago and have been thumbing through it, so we'll see how it goes:uhoh3:.

thanks for all the info!

Because it's more than three years old. It's considered a "nursing" class and is taken in the ADN program-there's a thing on the website that says nursing classes can't be mire than three years old. They told me i had to retake-sigh. You know it'll be hard as far as the commute. I'll more than liky be parking in downtown Littleton and taking the lightrail there. I'm not paying outrageous amounts for parking downtown. I'll still have to leave at the same time but save $ on parking and not deal with traffic that's worse than L.A. It's seriously terrible! I have four boys. Two are in school full time, the 4 year old goes to Mobtessori gull time-this was his first week and we took the spit anticipating I'd need full time for him. The 18 month old will also go there in August or September-he's on a waiting list. Thank goodness my husbands employer pays all bur about $250 of Montessori tuition lol! It'd be $1700 a month for two kids otherwise! I'll be using ny GI bill for school. It will carry me thru all but about three months. With financial aid kicked in it won't be even 5k I pay out of pocket roughly.

We love where we live. The Ken Caryl area of Littleton is amazing. We fell in love with the area when we moved here in Jan 2008. We are right up agsint the foothills, it's a perfect fistsnce from my husbands job, kids play Little League here, great schools, close to all the shopping on Wadsworth, etc. I tried to pm you my phone number but can't figure out how!

Hi IBLSlittletonJenn,

How did your test go, sorry I've been so busy, been meaning to call you. Our trip to Denver was really GREAT!!! we love denver. I really liked the school, location and I actually don't think they will have a problem getting NLN accreditation from the looks of things. Kelly was very sweet and helpful. The HESI was not bad at all, the study guide was really helpful. How did things go for you today?

Sadly enough I scored 66 on the math:down: I didn't study for the conversions (ounces to gallons, how many kilometers in a meter, etc.) Had it been algebra I'd of aced the damn thing-I have full points in that class this semester. Really disappointed since I have to go retake that section. I got 90's or higher on everything else and though it was cumulative but I guess the math is a stand alone score, where you need a 75. I've cried enough today as I have enough stress with finals going on and then this. I'm going back the 14th just for math. In addition, someone accidently unplugged half the computers in the room kicking one of the plug in's out. We also had several system errors where our computers crashed, forcing us to log out and log back in. Today sucked and now I have all these end of semester papers to finish writing.

I'm so glad you guys had a great trip out here-I like Kelly too. She was wearing an awesome pair of Joe's Jean's this morning which I commented on (love me some designer jeans) Anyway, the girl that sat next to me was there for a math retake-so I guess I'm not the only one that doesn't have math as her strong point. :uhoh3:

ETA: My girlfriend from A&P failed the reading/vocab/grammar so she will be with me the 14th. I feel bad for both of us but it helps knowing I'm not alone.

Oh, Darn! what a bummer :( The conversions are on of the things I had to study the most because I tend to forget them, It sounds like a stressful time for you, but once you're done with your papers, you can refocus on the math section, at least you don't have to redo all the english and grammer section.

I just finished my application at NursingCAS and applied to 3 other schools as well, I'm just keeping my options open, in case I can't come up with the money for DSON. I talked to a recruiter through the Navy, and they said the DSON program wouldn't qualify for scholarship program because it's not NLN accredited yet :-/ grrrr. so I have to look for a loan. Wonder how hard it is to get the Sally Mae loan??

Wel wouldn't you believed I got a 74 on the math today. They don't allow retests for one year-so DSN is out for me but I didn't want my BS from them anyway (I think a BS from UCD or Regis looks alot better). I would of got my ADN and still had another full year of school (since they can't take my military general ed credits) So I think it's for the best. I really panicked. I retested with a friend from school-she didn't padd again either. I feel like a moron lol. I can get A's in Algebra but can't get a 75 on basic math:uhoh3: I'm figuring out my game plan now.
