Hello everyone!
In the past, it seemed to be helpful to have a thread started for the residency programs so everyone can stay updated when the programs start sending out notifications. That being said, I haven't seen one started yet for the Colorado Children's New Nurse Residency Program (March 17' start.)
I applied to both Denver and Colorado Springs :)
The NICU in Aurora.
Hi! I just got a call for an interview at the NICU! I am sooooo excited, but also very nervous. I want to work as a NICU nurse so badly, plus I would feel honored to work for such an incredible institution. Do you have any advice for an interview? I appreciate any help or a recommendation.
Also, how do you like the program and your unit? Thank you!
Hey All!!
Just submitted my application!!
I would like to know if any of you know how competitive this program is and do you think it is beneficial to apply to both locations although I would rather be at the Aurora campus?
Hope you guys are enjoying your job for those who are in the program :)
Thanks
I just got off orientation. I love it here, there is so much support for new graduates. As new grads we have classes which are very helpful and you will learn a large amount of new information. The NICU is not a traditional NICU of just preemies, you get all kinds of babies up to a year. It has been a huge learning curve, it's hard and scary at times, and there is so much information to learn and know, but like I said there is a lot of support for new grads at this hospital. I love it here! The switching from nights to days isn't horrible, it is just tuff when you have to work nights and be up for your day time classes. But overall the shift switching is worth it to be apart of such a great place. Overall I would say it is really intense and a lot of work in the NICU but totally doable. This hospital definitely strives to be the best and you can see that in everything, and they want their nurses to be the best they can be as well.
Thanks for such a detailed response!! I am mostly worried about the schedule. I have a 4-year-old. Are there many people with kids and families, or is it mostly younger students?
There were only 4 of us for the NICU, 1 of us has kids but we are all in our late 20s early 30s. After orientation is over you can choose to do 2 mos of days then switch to 2 mos of nights for a year or you can do 1 mos of days then switch to 1 mos of nights for a year. After the year mark you can stay nights. From what I have learned it takes 3-4 years to become permanent day shift.
