Aroostook nurses walk for contract

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — With the goal of raising public awareness about their work and contract negotiations, nurses from The Aroostook Medical Center on Monday evening were joined by colleagues from around the state as they walked to draw attention to their cause….

…"Our actions today do not in any way suggest that negotiations are not going amicably," she said Monday evening. "They have been. We just want to draw attention to this issue and raise awareness so that the public will see what we are trying to get done."…

…The nurses are asking for a professional practice committee run by bedside nurses to have "true input" regarding patient care and safety issues. They also are seeking language in their contract that will prevent The Aroostook Medical Center from implementing new technology that replaces nurses at the bedside….

I found two reports:
Members Vote "Yes" on the Tentative ContractAugust 3, 2009

The members of local 7631 voted to accept the tentative contract as proposed in balloting held Monday, 03 Aug 2009.
Members spoke about their ongoing concerns in a spirited discussion during the day long voting process. There was a general consensus that the bargaining team had done a remarkable job in crafting the best agreement attainable at this time. Ultimately the members of the local decided to stand with their bargaining team by casting their votes in favor of the tentative agreement

Local 7631 of the MSNA/CNA/NNOC and Aroostook Medical Center reached a tentative contract
Tuesday, July 21st after lengthy negotiations. Federal Mediator, Elayne Tempel, facilitated the final negotiations. The negotiations were professional. There was no ill will between the parties.
Both the Union and TAMC bargained in good faith. Each party made constructive proposals was willing to work on coming to an agreement.
