Working as a CNA while in school...

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I'm eighteen and in my freshman year at a community college. I'm currently working part time and going to school full time, taking my pre-requisites for an RN program. I plan to take an accelerated CNA program that will last about a week and I'll be finished in early December.

The problem is that before the CNA class even begins, I will have to register for my Spring classes at the community college so I can finish my pre-requisites for an RN program. I can go to school any time, but I don't know when to schedule my classes so I can ALSO be hired to work as a CNA while I go to school. If I go to School Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, would that lessen my chances of being hired? What should I do?

I agree with the other post. I'm currently going to a four year college for nursing and I have to go five days a week. Therefore, I only work every other weekend. Not many hours, but I'm getting experience. Where I work, they were more than willing to work with my schedule. Also, I got all of my classes set up where I'm done around 1:00. So, if I HAD to I could work 3-11 shifts. Maybe, if you need to work full time get your classes set where you'd be done and able to get to work at 3, or work from 7-3 and then go to classes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to everybody! I appreciate all of the advice :)
