Whats Night shift (11pm-7am) like?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Got a new cna gig working the NOC shift at a bigger company after a few months of day shift at a much smaller SNF. During the day shift, I'm showering, feeding, clothing, changing diapers, grooming and stuff and barely had time with all the number of residents we get. (8-9).

some questions..Which is harder? Is night shift more relaxed? What will I be doing more of? I hear I'll be just changing diapers and turning patients. Are there things I need to know with NOC shift?

Thanks.

I actually found nights boring. My normal shift as a CNA was evenings (busiest shift at my facility) but if I got mandated to work overnight, I found it reaaaallllly slow. It consisted of:

-answering lights as necessary

-1 set vitals/shift

-q2h repositioning

-rounding q2h (which would be when repositioning was done)

-charting

-cleaning/bed changes as necessary

Not much to do.....

In my facility it is the same pace as the day shifts. This is because there are less CNA's to each hall than there are in the day. We do changing and vitals every 2 hours as well as other tasks.

I have never heard of a universal employee either, and I think it's kind of ridiculous. We have an awesome housekeeping team, they keep our facility extremely clean and CNA's do not do any of their work. Our housekeepers are not allowed to clean vomit, feces, or urine until it is first disposed of by a CNA. But I don't know what we'd do without our housekeepers.
