What is CNA orientation/training like??

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hello, as some of you know from my previous thread, I recently got a job at my local nursing home. (Yes we only have ONE! small town) I start floor orientation/training tomorrow and I was wondering if I could have some insight as to how this will go. I was given some checklists of Pericare, Vitals and Feeding and small checklists of all the other stuff. So will someone be WATCHING me all day? That makes me very nervous. I hope I get a good observer... lol. But I just want to know how your experience with training was and how long was it? Thank you to all of you who post replies... :D

Orientation length will vary from facility ot facility. They should have told you how long your orientation will be. It should be at least two weeks.

I wouldn't view it as someone watching you!! It's more like your chance to be sure that you are doing things correct, such as peri care. Doing improper pericare on an elderly person could case a urinary tract infection. This UTI could lead to hospitalization or even death in the elderly. I am not trying to scare you. I am just saying that you are there to do a VERY important job. Your pay will never reflect that, but it is highly important non the less!!! So, be happy that you will have an experienced aide to make sure you are doing things correctly. Unlike your cna test, you can ask questions, ask for help, and even observe how the experienced aides do things (not always the correct way, I know). Cutting corners is what causes "accidents." Try your best to never fall into this trap. I know it will be hard. Come here to vent and tell of those great moments that make being a cna such a wonderful thing to be!!!

Sincerely,

Jay
