Rehab Aide?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

I recently completed my CNA class and just got offered a position as a rehab aide. I'm very interested in this b/c I think I eventually want to go back to school for OT or PT, so I think that this would be good experience. Has anyone here worked as a rehab aide? I also have a job offer for a CNA position in a SNF...I think I'd prefer the rehab aide job, but would like to see if anyone has any experience in it. Thanks!

Mindy, Happy 40th! (I'll be there quite soon myself) Just think, you have exciting new changes to start your 40s!!

Thank you! And yes, I am excited about the next journey in my life:-) And I am sure you are as well!!

Hi There! Just read your post - could you tell me what part of the country you are in? How did you get the job? I am a CNA in Florida and have been thinking of my next step. Rehab Aide is what I want to do but don't know how to get the position. What experience did you have when you applied? So many questions! I have been a CNA for 8 months and work with a private client through a home health agency. LOVE my job! But would like to move on! Thanks so much! Any information will help! I was in the business world before I became a CNA...

Floridadreamer,

I'm in the northeast. I found the job just by looking searching "rehab aide" jobs on indeed.com, and I applied online. I didn't have any related experience (and just finished a CNA class, so no CNA experience either), but I expressed my interest in PT and OT in my cover letter. I also explained that I was transitioning to healthcare from the legal field and was planning on going back to school next year. I got a call right away for this position, but I had applied to several other similar positions and received no response. So sometimes it's just luck, I guess.

In addition to rehab aide, you may also want to do searches for "physical therapy aide" and "occupational therapy aide" and just "therapy aide." Good luck!

Hi, I would also suggest contacting some rehab companies like genesis for instance. I had a recent interview for a restorative aide job, but was not selected. Or you could also call around to Skilled nursing facilities and ask to speak to the therapy area and see if they have a need? Especially since you already have experience as a CNA that is a real plus. I am currently volunteering at a SNF in the therapy area and I really love it so far. I am hoping when they expand the gym in a year they will hire me on. I basically transport the pateints to and from therapy and today I did get to do a few exercises with a few residents:-) Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much everyone! I have decided what I really want to do...:yeah:Volunteering seems to be the way to get and "in" besides getting a job in one of the facilities?

Good luck Floridadreamer, let us know how it goes:-)

Thanks so much to everyone on this thread! I hope that this works out...still trying to figure my future. Love the home health - so rewarding and love the giving back! Will follow the advice - and start moving in the rehab direction...again, thanks sooo very much. Start making my network and contacts!

You are so welcome:) Let us know how it goes. I wish you the best of luck.

I worked as a Rehab Nurse Tech in Macon, Georgia @ a REhab Hospital. It was thought to believe that I hurt my back when later it was found that my gallbladder was im bad need of being taken out. I have informed that same hospital of the truth since t hen but they will not hire me back. After I came off of light clerical duty from a temp transfer of what no is not the caes, they fired me!!!! I have applied for that position again and applied at the hospital that I was on light clerical duty with. I an not eligable for re-hire at either place! That is discrimination and do Ineed to contact the board of labor with the secretary of labor in Washington,dc?
