Pay Rate for CNA/Medication Aide

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello everyone, I live in Charlotte, North Carolina. I passed the certification test for Medication Aide, January, 2006. Most of the nursing homes, I have talked to said, I need to be a CNA. I will complete the CNA course next month. Does anybody know the starting payrate for CNA/Medication Aide. Any information would be helpful trying to get a high payrate to cover my mortgage while in school. Thank you.:monkeydance:

:lol2: I am a Certified Nurse Asst in South Carolina and work at a nursing home that is said to be one of the lowest paid for CNAs. I make $8.15 hour base pay but work 2nd shift with an extra $1.00 for that and if I work a Friday, Saturday or Sunday I make $2.00 more an hour and if I work a day that I'm not scheduled to work, no matter what shift, I get an extra $2.00 an hour for that. I have worked about 8 hours of overtime and brough home about $780.00 for a two week period and then if I work the usual 40 hours I bring home about $680.00 for a two week period. That's not bad money if you don't have to support nobody but yourself. I've been told by a private agency that they will pay me about $15.00 an hour brand new once I got the certificate and they put you to work in nursing homes, private duty and other medical facilities. It's good money while you are in nursing school. I'm not sure what places like Home Health and Hospice pay but I've applied so maybe soon I'll find out. Good Luck. Beth

thats an awful thing to say! i am currently a LNA and we have a beautiful home on the lake and pay for it just fine. and im starting school again next month so you can do it!!( this is to who wrote they dont make crap and good luck paying for a house)

Specializes in geriatrics, dementia, ortho.

I work in the Pacific Northwest & here, CNA's start between $8.50-$10 hr in LTC/AL facilities. Med techs start between $9-$12. Hospitals pay more but are very competitive to be hired & require experience. Good luck!
