i have a couple questions (new cna!)

So i'm going to be working for the first time as a CNA at a ltc facility. I just have a couple questions.. 1. what is the best way to report off? and how do i do it without bothering whoever i'm suppose to report off to? in clinical, it seemed like whenever me and the rest of the girls were reporting off they didn't want to hear it or rolled their eyes or never really wanted to listen which made no sense to me.. 2. if i have any free time (which i'm assuming i most likely won't) is it okay to just sit and talk to the residents? 3. i want to make sure i take care of all my residents to the best of my best ability but if i'm uncomfortable doing certain things that i didn't get a chance to do in clinical, is it okay to ask for help? i don't want them to think that i don't know what i'm doing because i do.. it's just some things i haven't had the chance to do on a real person like cleaning catheters and helping people use bed pans. 4. what if i have to give someone a shower or something that takes longer than 15 minutes and i have residents on 15 minute checks?

sorry so long i could go on forever!

If you find yourself with free time make sure your pts have h20, see who needs to be changed or needs to use the restroom. See who needs a snack then you can go into a pt room and do something productive. Clean their nails comb their hair. But don't just sit down it doesn't look professional

Every facility is different when it comes to giving report

A great thing to do if you find yourself all caught up is to ask a coworker if they need help with anything. You might also tidy linen or supply cupboards, that sort of thing.

For reporting off, you could just straight out ask the nurse what is preferred when you start.
