How to get a hospital job

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi! I just completed my CNA and was really hoping to get into a hospital! Most want experience a few don't. I'm applying for all while I wait for my date to take my state test! Problem is I will get rejection emails the same day I put in my resume so I think it needs help! I think I may be missing key words that their software scans for or maybe it just sends my name to the registry right away to check to see if I'm on it.

I'm really not sure but I am sure my resume could use some work!

If any of you have pointers it'd be greatly appreciated!

I have no previous care in a medical type setting besides clinicals but I do have experience in childcare and was kinda trying to figure out a way to tie that in. I don't want to work in the children's hospital tho because I feel like I'd come home and cry every day!

I am continuing on to nursing and after my CRNA so getting into a hospital as early as possible would be great!

I am signed up to take a phlebotomy class in fall, but most hospitals here (Wisconsin) will train you to do phlebotomy as well and I only signed up to make myself a little more marketable!

I am not desperate for a job and kinda figured I'd be jobless this summer anyway because I'm holding out for the right position and after fall I was assuming I could get in a hospital as a phlebotomist. If I have to get experience in a ltc facility I am open to that but would rather not because it really made me sad! I'd rather see this people come and go I did have to deal with 2 deaths while in clinicals but never got attached so while it was still sad it didn't get to me as much as having to see people suffer everyday and the 2 were in such bad condition it was just better! Sorry for rambling just wanted you all to know where I stand and my reasonings behind what I want to do!

I'm in new mexico, and the hospitals don't hire cna's to learn on the job. If you don't have any expierence they require nursing school. The snf's and ltc's are hard to get into here, they solely hire on census. I have never been asked about gap or where I ranked in class....I've only been asked about experience.

Everything here besides hospitals are pretty easy to get into but a lot have very low wage like $8 a hour not worth it when I can get a job doing something else paying $14! It's not all about the money, but I have to make at least enough to break even after having to pay for gas and a sitter. But like I said I really want a hospital so I'm holding out for it and I guess if it's after my phlebotomy class in fall oh well! I couldn't find any pct specific courses in wi it's like you have to take all the classes separate. I am continuing on to nursing school but there is a ridiculous waitlist I have 3 years left for an associates and can't afford a private school with no waitlist in the area I have found one adn it's a $40,000 program and a couple bsn running around $30,000 a year. Which would be fine if I could get tuition reimbursement but can't afford to pay it out if pocket because during crna school I won't be able to work for 2 years besides summer so I need to save every penny I can!!

Totally understand, but don't hold out, you could miss an experience you can learn from. Look at all routes in....billing and coding, med assist school....phlebotomy won't be the deal breaker.....if your taking a full semester or two semester advanced course, get certified. Our hospitals are not hiring phlebotomists, pcts do that now. I try to get all the education I can...I have been doing this while on the wait list...I'm going to get my Bsn and then either or nurse or tech.....I love the or

I graduated from my NA class back in Feb. took my state certification near the end if March. I searched online for "cover letters for new CNA's" as well as "new CNA resume" I found some great examples that showed me how to highlight my clinical skills & experience. After searching all the hospitals in my area I applied for every open position. May be from sheer luck, but I just accepted my first hospital job a week ago. I have orientation coming up next week :) I say keep applying, tweak your resume if need be. Definitely try searching examples of new CNA resumes for ideas

Medical assistant programs also have a waitlist! You have to petition to get into the medical billing classes next petition date isn't until fall and its a one year program taking away from me being able to complete my gen eds. Not trying to make excuses but it is what it is. The hospitals here do hire phlebotomist as well as pcts most train the pcts to do blood draws, ivs, etc. so if I could get that training without having to pay for the class it would be great! Meaganfn do you mind if I email you my resume and you can take a look at it and see what i need to tweak? My test date should be back soon I'm guessing I'll test the second week of May which I think will help a lot just to have my resume actually be looked at. I have also applied to every open position just no luck yet!

Sure, I don't mind taking a look at your resume. I know how frustrating the search can be.
