First day of clinicals, really nervous!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I just finished the classroom portion of my CNA training program. I have two days of clinicals at a LTC facility this weekend and then I'll have completed the course. I am so nervous about clinicals because it will be my first exposure to patient care. Any tips/tricks for getting through it smoothly?

Just remember that you are still a student. It's okay to ask questions and ask for help. Don't feel like you have to know it all and have it mastered before you leave the facility this weekend. Sometimes you might even get help from the residents. :).

Remember to knock on doors, introduce yourself and wash those hands and smiling always works ;) other than that you're there to learn,if there is something you don't understand or a procedure you don't know how to do Ask questions! Good luck

Ask tons of questions!!!! This is the time to ask.

If you get the chance, talk to the CNA's that work there about their job. Tricks and tips they can offer. Some of the "tricks" and "short cuts" you will NOT be able to use during your clinicals or for the state exam, but when you get into the "real world" it will be helpful especially as a new CNA.

Try not to be nervous...think of it as a classroom.
