CNA Skills test! HELP!

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I have been a CMA (certified medical assistant) for about 6 years now and just got accepted into nursing school. I have to be a CNA by June 15th and have no time to take the class. I feel fine about the written part its the skills that I am stressing over! If anyone can offer me any suggestions, I would be very grateful! I have been studying hard! I'm taking the exam in NC!

THANKS!:uhoh3:

well, honestly i'm not all that nervous about it anymore. i have been studying my butt off and feel pretty confident. but that doesn't account for me hating to do this with someone watching my every move !

i actually talked with my nursing advisor today (i just recently was accepted into the rn program) and asked her some questions about it and she said that the biggest thing that most people fail on is the handwashing because they don't do it long enough! so that was a help - i also asked her if the proctors were really picky on all the steps but she just said not to forget the items that are highlighted in bold in the study guide!

good luck!:D

Hi When are you taking the test?? Also,I heard to always knock on he pt door and greet the pt. best wishes..keep me posted :D, Sherie

hey - i take it on the 30th of this month.

yeah, you do have to remember to "knock" and pull the privacy curtain - don't forget to explain the procedure while you're doing it!

let me know how you do as well! :D

sooo...i took my written and skills test today and i passed! yay! the written test wasn't bad at all - actually, i think my 5 year old son could've taken it and passed! it was alot of common sense stuff!

the skills were another thing...i thought for sure i failed. the skills i got were:

1. handwashing - i did fine here.

2. weight - fine as well

3. making an occupied bed - ahhh! i was so nervous that my hands were shaking! when i was done, i tucked the sheet in the bed rail and the evalutor was like "you just illegally restrained a patient" so i was thinking "well, isn't this just awesome!

4. knee-high stocking - this was fine, pretty easy actually!

5. catheter care - so instead of cleaning the urinary meatus, i did peri-care on the dummy instead! but she passed me anyway!

well, it wasn't that bad but bad enough! who cares though - i'm a cna now and what does that mean???

my spot in the rn program is officially mine now!

whoo-hoo! thanks to all the great advice! :yeah:

Always stay calm and remember to let the bed down, rails up, call light within patients reach, ask the patient if they are comfortable and ask if they would like the door opened or closed.

Yay!!!!!! I am happy for you and I just relized that post I replied too was from months ago..opps..lol.. Congrads!!!!!!!!!!

When I was going through the CNA/MA program the LPN's were next to us and one women came out and said to me "Why would you want to be at the bottom of the toten pole" Or somthing like that, and my reply was "So you dont have to be" I don't think she deserved to be a LPN till this day. In health care us CNA's, MA's, LPN and RN's are suppost to be a team. Some people are in it more for the pride . You will hear alot of hurtful things but you also will be thanked by many patients and them patients are what matters. Just remember if you didnt do it who would?? Keep truckin and leave all negativity behind. I'm sure your patients are very grateful:yeah:

Future NS.... Gosh ,thank you , there re such wonderful caring people on these threads ..i feel blessed to have found yall=]
