CNA certification question

Hi,

I'm new to this board. I took a Nursing Assistant course over 6 yrs ago and how have decided to apply for my license. I am currently studying & practicing to take my CNA exams in a month or so from now.

Now my question is: Can I work while my certificate is being mailed to me if I pass both sections or do I have to wait for the certificate to come in the mail? I live in Florida, if thats helps. I have no idea where to find this answer.

It really depends on where you work. I also live in Florida and have worked in two hospitals. The first wouldn't let anyone uncertified work, while the second would, they just paid you more for certification. You should be able to find more information with the BON.

it definately depends on the employer, but just an fyi here is some info from the fl dept. of health.

"q. are there instances where i may begin my employment as a nursing assistant prior to obtaining certification?

a. yes, there are three (3) exceptions which allow you to work for a maximum of four (4) months (120 days) while awaiting receipt of your florida certification: (1) applicants enrolled in or have completed a state approved program, or (2) applicants who have been verified as being actively certified in another state, or (3) applicants who have preliminarily passed the state exam but have not yet received the certificate. (see 400.211, f.s.) all of these are at the determination of the employer."
