any good book recommendations???

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

hi, all! currently, i'm reading "nobody's home" by thomas edward gass. admittedly, it's breaking my heart, but i'm hoping it helps prepare me a bit. see, i'm starting my cna training in april. i've been watching the online videos recommended above, i've also been checking out some nursing books from the library. i've joined a thousand cna "support groups" (places where cna's get together & share their thoughts & ideas about what life as a cna is like, much like this board, as a matter of fact). i'm getting so excited & so nervous about everything, but i'm trying to keep focused & psyched out about all of everything. i'm really enjoying "nobody's home" but am going to be finishing it up in the next couple of days. does anybody have any other good book recommendations for somebody embarking on a career as a cna? suggestions would be awesome & i appreciate it so much, in advance. -becky

I recommend Making Grey Gold by Timothy Diamond. I read it for a sociology of medical institutions class many years back and would like to read it again before starting work as a CNA.

isn't this book awesome? i started a thread on here encouraging others to read it (i'm such a geek:specs: !) & i'm so glad there's other people to talk to about it!

i don't have any other suggestions, but i can tell you that i read the book after i worked as a cna & the reason i loved it so much was because it was so realistic to my cna experience! it felt like it had been written by somebody that i could have worked with.

i guess my suggestion is to read nobody's home again!:lol2:

Jessica 392 - I actually read your thread & ordered the book because of that. Thanks for the recommendation - as I said - I love it!

Sarah 6678 - I just checked out "Making Gold Grey" & think I may just have to order this book as well!

Thank you, Thank you, you two!!! =)

"A caregivers guide to alzheimers, 300 tips for making life easier." It not only applies to alz., but caring for anyone with dementia or bouts of confusion on all levels. And it has plenty of helpful tips for you the caregiver to keep your life on track and stress free along with tips for caring for these patients. Its a great read!

well, this book i'm reading is more for RNs and not CNAs, but it's a very good book, i'm currently in the middle of it and i love it. it's called Intensive Care: The Story of a Nurse by Echo Heron. :)

I'm reading The Nurse's Story by Carol Gino. Excellent read and I would definitely recommend it.

I also ordered Nobody's Home. :lol2:
