So I've looked at the numerous threads on here about agency work and I guess I'm just wanting to hear from a CNA's perspective on the matter. Most of the posts were from Nurses.

An agency visited our class today talking about all sorts of "wonderful" opportunities. And they called their company a caregiver service not an agency, but from what I could gather, they were an agency. I think the only reason I'm even thinking about agency work is because of a lack of employment in my area at the time. Plus with the flexibililty offered (#1 reason for ppl doing agency work), I could work part-time somewhere else and attend school.

Are there any CNA's out there that have or do work agency?

Personally I'd want to work for a regular place at first to get experience.

I just got a job with an agency and I love it ,the area I live in doesn't hire anybody without having at least a year of experience.

I guess there aren't many agency workers???

Becarefull of agency or caregiver services. Past few weeks my wife has tried her hand as a Home Health Aide with NO prevous experience or NO TRAINNING.

First Agency gave her a trainer for 1 day. & a patent way above her Caregiver ability. The man was wheel chair bound in his 50`s & mental challegned. He had very brital bones, & was very overweight. The agency did not provide the proper equipment to lift him, & he was also a Dysphasus level 2 diet.

She informed them that he was beyond her ability to care for. & asked for a new client that would be easier to learn from. She was informed you either take care of this patent or you no job. So she took the no job route not being comfortable being his care provider.

Her current job gave her 1 day of classes aka videos for 7 hrs. & told her she has work 12hrs days. Wanting her to work 6 days a week. She informed them on hiring, & on her application she only wanted 40hrs a week, & no more than 8 hrs a day.

Alot of them will tell you what you want to hear to get you in. Once, your in your at their mursey till you quit or find another job.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not a CNA yet, but I was placed through an agency in Louisville, KY as a caregiver. I placed an application online requesting $11-$12 an hour--I've been paid this before. I was called back immediately (within 5 minutes of placing my application) and was asked to come in for an interview. First off, if you're going to pay someone $6.55 an hour, why wouldn't you explain on the phone that they're going to pay you half of what you requested? Well, went there and they didn't mention pay or anything--my fault for not clarifying. Well, I assumed I was going to get paid $11/hour. They didn't tell me otherwise. They hired me to work for a woman the next day because another caregiver quit after a couple of days (apparently because she wasn't told important information about the client). Well, I got there early. Everything went fine until I received my pay check. It was half of what I was expecting AND they didn't pay me for all of my hours. Wow, I learned my lesson. Oh, and I called and talked VERY politely to a woman regarding my check and she told me I was going to be called back on Monday. I was NEVER called and a weekend later (the weekend I was supposed to work) I called and asked for the address again because I lost it. They were like, "Oh, we thought you quit..." I didn't quit (I have bills to pay)! And apparently the family cancelled services with them anyway...and I don't blame them one bit. Very unprofessional. I'm sure not all agencies are this way, but I'm more cautious now....

Wow, I am so sorry this happened to you. This is what I'm afraid of. I just so happened to receive a request for private duty work. I posted a thread about it under What do you think?. This is all so new to me:confused:
