Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I'm halfway through my CNA program and about to start applying for job positions. What is the best facility to work at as a brand new CNA ?

•Independent living (Retirement community)

•Assisted Living

•Long Term Care

•Home Health Care

My mom is in assisted living and the CNAs that work there have it pretty easy. Comparing them to a long term care facility bc the ppl in assisted living can get around and are not bed bound. The CNAs do help my mom with whatever she needs but so far my mom is doing most things on her own. They may help her get in and out of the shower and that's about it so far. Everyone there is like a big family. The place where she lives is beautiful and I can tell the CNAs enjoy coming to work. They also have a med aide that helps my mom with her meds. I'm not saying it's easy work but I feel like it's not as back breaking as taking care of someone in a nursing home that is bed bound. Good luck!

Thanks🙂

Specializes in Long term care.

I would say it depends on YOU and how you work.

If you are someone who likes to be constantly busy, can't sit still, need to move....Long term care is best for you.

I you like a medium pace, prefer less "hands on care" then assisted living and independent living is better for you.

If you enjoy spending lots of individual care (one on one) "getting to you" type of work but, will often include more "housekeeping" and down time (maybe needed for studying) then home care is for you!

This really is a general idea of each type of setting. But I think it can give you an idea of what they can be like.

I am someone who likes to keep moving and running so a nursing home is a perfect fit for me. I've done home care and assisted living and I was bored out of my mind!
