Sad Boards

Nursing Students SRNA

Unfortunately I failed boards. I have been a reck. I had 100 questions and had 99 mins left when the computer stopped. I studied valley sweat book, all the prodigy categories exams and only the advance practice topics from Memory Master for six weeks. I have been studying again. I haven't reschedule anything yet. I am completely embarrass and want jump off the the tallest building in the world. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

@rjnavarro629 sorry for just responding I have been busy. The second time around I found the sweat book and apex anesthesia really helped me. I also took breaks when studying. I did the practice exams from core concept. Hope this helps.

Did you ever pass? I hope so. Fighting the same battle now.

In our program they start using APEX as a supplement for lecture 2.5 years before we take boards. Essentially after the first semester they start making us hammer board prep material. Many of the seniors who graduated this Summer and took boards said APEX and SEE helped them feel confident in passing first time. From my experience with APEX for about 9 months now I have to say it's helpful and intuitive. It takes the general topics from the textbooks and breaks it down even deeper while also applying it clinically.

Find someone who understands the questions and what they want for the answer. Sounds silly but there is a philosophy behind it and they want you to think a certain way their way). Then you can choose the answer they want. There are two answers that can be correct. You have to know the questioners Point of view. Maybe someone who also failed but then passed. Good luck. Just have to know what they want.

I know this is an old thread but thought I’d give it a shot. I just graduated in Jan 2020. I got a 448 kn the SEE, had to take it 3 times to get score over 425. I continued to study for boards feeling pretty good. I took boards and failed with a 440. I took it again a week later and failed, I do t know the actual score yet but I feel it has to be between 440-450. I have gone through APEX multiple times and supplant with Valley. I know the info, but have never been a good standardized test taker. Any advice for what to do? I have 2 more chances. I feel like I literally am 1-2 questions away ?

Well did you pass?

Yes I did! Went back to the basics and the Valley Memory Master book. Passed it in 100 questions ?

Woohoo! I have a year left, I’m about to become a senior… I’m going to start studying for the SEE exam soon. Glad to hear persistence pays off!

Does your school use Apex? We had Apex that our school paid for. I would say that helped with the SEE Exam- which is big on OB, Peds, Elderly changes, CVP waveform, nerve( Aalpha, beta, gamma, delta; B & C) and definitely on legal section.

As for boards, I was only using Apex at first- it clearly didn’t quite get me there (although so close). For my 3rd attempt at boards, I went back to Valley Memory Master book and textbooks. I can actually say I read most of Nagelhout ? but there where questions/facts I remembered from board questions that were not in Apex. I focused on the speciality chapters and made sure I read those. They tables and pictures in Nagelhout were also very helpful. And all I can say for the Valley Memory Master book is that it was “gold” for me. There were so many “questions” right from there!

Best of luck! Be confident in yourself and KNOW that you will do great!

Thank you for the thorough advice! I am using Apex, my DNP program requires it for curriculum and mandatory study classes. I finish my last lectures in May and then I will start reading the textbooks, Naghelhout is on my list and I’m glad to see I’m heading in the right direction. I didn’t know memory masters Is such a good resource! Thanks again for the advice. I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my career.
