Ive heard of it, i think the point is to try and avoid the tachycardia with ephedrine, and the bradycardia with neo, while still increasing blood pressure, who knows if it works that way or not. someone's cute little idea.

it does seem like they potentiate each other, like if I start out giving neo for whatever reason and it is not as effective as desired, and then switch to ephedrine I'll get a good rise in blood pressure. From what I've seen it works both ways. I could be imagining things. I've not seen anyone mix them together though.

I have seen anesthesiologist put a little of each in a liter of the fluid that you bolus an L&D patient with prior to placing a spinal. It actually worked nicely & I never saw him have to treat a pt's BP. But, I have not heard of mixing them together otherwise.

I agree! Personally, I use ephedrine as my first line drug in decreased BP and if continued support is needed I swap to the good ol' Neo- drip if necessary. I have never seen anyone at my facility mix the drugs.

Of course, now there's that pesky Neosynephrine shortage...what's that all about?!
