Is there a way to become a NP without getting a MSN?

  1. As I saw some posts talked about getting a MSN in another field really decreases one's choices of CRNA schools. So I was wondering if someone wants to be a NP first, does that person has to go to a Master's program? Is there a way to become a NP without getting a MSN degree frist?

In NY, a MSN degree is required for all NP's.

From everything that I have read a Master of Nursing (MSN) is the only graduate degree that will allow you to become an NP. There are probably more then 20 CRNA programs that do not confer an MSN degree, and several that will give Post Graduate Certificates if you already have an MSN degree. All the programs are listed programs at aana.com.

    Hi,

I have not come across any NP program that did not require a MSN. Go for it...2 years will pass by quickly. It's worth it when you finish.

Thanks for all the replies, seems there is no way to bypass the requirement.

I was just curious to this topic after seen a couple of posts about NP who want to become CRNA but come cross the possible problem of dual MSN degrees.

I have a master's in nursing and am applying to CRNA programs. In one state alone there are 4 programs that offer post-master's option. Even if they don't advertise a certificate option, many of your credits may transfer.
