Interview for school in 3 weeks

Specialties CRNA

I have an interview on May14th at Samford University's new CRNA program (Birmingham, AL). I would appreciate any pointers regarding the whole interview process and what questions may be asked. I will be interviewing with 5 different people for approximately 20 minutes each. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Well every school has a different interview process, so it is hard to say without going through each one. So when you are done you can let us all know what their general format is.

It appears that the interview process can be of two types, one that is clinically focused along with the usual "who are you" questions. And the other that is more "who are you" without a lot of clinical questions.

I have only been through the clinical question type. In those, you get questions regarding medications you commonly use (vasoactive drips etc,) Ventilator questions, Swan questions, maybe a scenario or two and a what would you do.

Your interview is very close, my suggestion is to try to relax, and show them what a great choice you would be.

If it is clinically based you know what you know. If you think you might be weak in something you could look at that, but I would'nt try to learn anything detailed, as in the stress of an interview it will just get muddled.

Wishing you the very best of LUCK. No, change that not luck, that just happens. This is something you put a lot of work into, so here's hoping that all your work pays off!!

Smiling_ru makes a good point ....relax and be yourself. Don't try to BS too much. I also have interviews coming up in the next few weeks (Different schools). I wish you all the best. Let us know how things turn out!

The best thing you can do is relax, be yourself, and present a professional attitude. Brush up on your ICU basics-vents, swan numbers, drips etc. Just go in KNOWING that you deserve to be there. Also, if you don't know the answer to a question they ask, tell them you don't know. They would rather hear you admit that you don't know then to have you make something up. I know someone who BS'd too much during his interview, and they told him that!!! Ouch!!!

You will do fine. Just be you!!!!! and don't forget to smile!!!

Smiling_ru has pretty much stated what you can expect to find. However, do not forget to ask questions of your own as this demonstrates you are actively participating in the interview process. Is this going to be their first class? If so good questions to ask are How does the school plan on preparing the students to pass the boards? If they have had a graduating class, what was their rate of success on the boards?

Thanks for the input.

I guess the other question I have is what to wear. Do I wear the typical skirt and jacket or is a dressy pants suit appropriate??
