Info needed for Army Fort Sam Houston Program

My 25 year old son, just decided the other day he is not going to go to Fort Sam for the medic training. He is OUT of the service as of March 31, school was not going to end until May...you do the math. I could not go another year with my baby in Iraq. No matter how good it looks.........

I have several friends that have attended this program. It is a very tough program. I have been told that it as a 50% failure rate, but it is also supposed to be the #1 program in the country. You will start this program in June and do your didactic portion for 12 months, then you will PCS to your clinical site. If you are in the AF, you usually get to chose between a few clinical sites. Not sure, but alot people end up at Travis AFB. You will be in the Army program, so you have to maintain the Army standards of fitness and PT every morning and attend alot of the Army functions. You will continue to receive your pay based on your rank. You are non-deployable while you are in school, and until you have completed your clinical. Not sure what branch you are in but you will have to be selected by a committee, and then seek acceptance into the Army program. In the Air Force, there is a call for candidates once a year, usually in late spring. Your Human Resources OIC should be able to assist you with all the proper timing a paperwork. Also with the AF you will need to meet acceptance by the AFIT committee, and then be chosen to go to Fort Sam or the Air Force program in Maryland. Admission requirements are typically, cumulative GPA 3.0 and Science GPA of 3.0, GRE of a combined 1000 and 3.5, Current science and statics courses, and typically at least 1 year in the ICU. I am currently in the program. Please feel free to PM me! Oh by the way, they are having a 2nd Board meet in January to get more students in. No PT every day, just 3 times a week we go to the gym before or after class (as long as you pass your test). Not really a big deal. I am a Civilian student and I still must attend PT MWF.
