CRNA TO FNP OR ANP

Specialties CRNA

I hope this is in the right place..

I was just wondering if it was possible to go from a CRNA and get a post masters in FNP or ANP. I know that it is possible to do the opposite (FNP or ANP to CRNA) but was unsure if you could go from a CRNA to a PMC. I know with becoming a CRNA you hold a ARNP.. but was confused if that is acceptable to go on do a post masters certificate program...

Thanks,

Sorry no one has taken the time to answer your question. Yes, you can. You can get a post masters certificate in any track after you have an MSN of any type. However, some schools do not award a MSN in anesthesia, but a MS in anesthesia, which would prohibit you from getting a PMC in another nursing track.

The bigger question is WHY would you want to?

If you are CRNA already I would like to know what your reason is for thinking of doing this?

I see many reasons to do this.

1)There are small rural hospitals in my area that do not have a surgery schedule everyday (one in particular only has surgery on tues and thurs). So they have been looking for CRNAs with an NP cert to work in the OR on tues and thurs and in the ER other days.

2) It makes getting into chronic pain management easier.

3) I know of at least one CRNA with an NP cert that it contracted by an anesthesia group to function in the OR 2 days a week and 3 days/week his is doing CCM.

4) Marketability. The more things you can do the less likely you'll be out of a job one day. Not that anesthesia has anything to really worry about as far as job security.

5) Some people are just ADD and like to do different things.

Not for everyone, but it's not like it's hard to get a PMC-NP after CRNA school.
