Has anyone attended the meeting before? I have signed up for a few of the sessions, and would be curious on what would benefit a first year student the most.
The national meeting is a great experience for any student. Any of the educational sessions that look interesting to you are worth going to.
I would also like to encourage you to attend the association related activities. There are lots of these open to everyone, including students. The regional breakouts are particularly good, you get to hear what is going on in your states and the states near you. With our political battles being fought at the state level, every single one of us is on the front line. You need to know what the hot issues are in your area.
And go the the business meeting. Students don't always know that it is OK for them to go. It is, you just can't vote. It is sometimes dry, and even tedious. But it is so important. This is the process by which big organizations get things done. After all, the business meeting is the very reason we all get together once a year!
Oh yeah, and don't forget to have some fun, too. I'm glad you are going, I think you will get a lot out of it in many ways.
