Wow. Just wow. Ramblings and wonderings about DEM and CNM.

Specialties CNM

I've had 3 homebirths; the last one was incredibly hands-off and I finally called to the assistant as the baby was crowning to catch her (water) as I couldn't do it myself and that was the only "intervention" the entire birth; had SROM 2 days before labor began with #3, researched and decided my own protocol (which my DEM/RN finally admitted she was uneasy with and asked me to please take a shot; I gave birth 3 hours later :)); 1st birth was hospital; second was at 35 weeks 6 days at home (I had pre-term with the first two (boys) and none wiht the second two (girls)).

I really really really believe in the natural model of pregnancy and birth. As such, I felt I could NEVER work the OB department and have been looking at anesthesia (for the money). But other than motherhood, I've always felt a calling to midwifery. It just never occurred to me that it could be possible.

We live on the road and I would eventually look to be a traveller (or work 1/2 the year and take winter in Mexico where we live right now) but didn't think it would be possible to travel as a DEM. Maybe I *could* deal with the hospital and birthing.

Thanks to everyone participating in this forum. I have a lot to read!
