I'm an 18 year old Freshman at Chrisopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. I would like to eventually become a nurse-midwife, but I'm not sure on how to get started. Next year I will be transferring to either George Mason University or the Univeristy of Virginia. Can someone please write back and advise me on how to stay in the state of VIRGINIA and still become a midwife; I've been searching around and I can only find about to options. Thanks for your time!

Specializes in many.

Your number one place for information on midwifery is http://www.midwife.org . It can help you find a school and decide what kind of midwife you want to be.

Good Luck!

I know there is a place in shenandoah, va that offers midwifery. I think it is the only one I have come across recently. Good luck!

Radford University in Radford, Va and Old Dominion University in Norfolk have both signed collaborative agreements with Shenandoah University. One takes the core MSN classes at the state school and then takes the midwifery classes at Shenandoah. You end up with a MSN from the state school and a certificate in nurse midwifery from Shenandoah. Supposedly UVa is going to sign an agreement to do the same. This "option" is new, as of this fall for Radford, more recent for ODU. I'm currently in the Radford program and expect to finish my core classes this summer and start at Shenandoah in the fall. Go to www.radford.edu for more information.

Good luck!
