Job Offer ! Hoorah!

Im in!! I just got a job offer today from an insurance company for a worker's compensation CM position. This will be my first case manager position. Please share your opinions with me. I think I'll be offered another position with a different company for a case manager position working with indigent/medicaid population. Do you guys think I will get more valuable experience in the worker's comp case management position or the with the other population?

Having worked as CM in the past in psych & substance abuse, I think you will get diversified experience in both areas. Workers comp may not be quite as diversified, but the reasons for the workers comp could be. As for medicaid population, you would definitely see many different areas - depression, lots of mental health issues, homelessness, joblessness, no outside supports, no income (other than usually SSDI), drugs, alcoholism, medical problems either caused by any of the above or totally separate.
Of course, with the workers comp you could also deal with a lot of the same stuff because most people out of work with a disability then become depressed, could lose their homes, could have marital problems. Lots for yyou to think about. Either one is a good place to start. Good luck with your choice and the job. Teh

Question Re: Job Offer ! Hoorah!
Thanks for the reply. I laid awake last night contemplating the job offer. One more question. Will the worker's compensation case management position put me in line with the requirements for taking the CCM?

I'm sorry but that I don't know. Maybe you can ask the interviewer at the workmen's comp. Or maybe someone here does have the answer and will be able to provide it. Wish you well. Teh

You can go on the CCMC web site to get that info. It's been a while and I wouldn't want to give you the wrong info. http://www.ccmcertification.org/

Congratulations on your job offers. I would think that most case management positions would put you in line for the CCM. In fact, the employer I work for currently requires us to have it. I have some former and current acquaintances that worked worker's comp and got their CCM.
