certified managed care nurse (CMCN)

I honestly have never heard of CMCN...CCM seems to be the most recognized certification in this field. You mentioned that most of your co-workers have this...is there a particular reason why? On the other hand, it may be something to "whet your whistle" until you are eligible for CCM....you know they do allow you to sit for CCM in one year if you are supervised by a CCM....
Do you have a link to any CMCN info? I am interested in learning more about it...maybe then we'll be better able to answer your question...

I have to tell you I find it really screwy that one of the requirements for certification is completion of their $300 home study course, no wait....it is $350. I have never run across any other credential with that requirement...usually you gain competency in the field thru work experience....hence the employment requirement....ANCC has the same.....
Seems like a lot of money to spend for a certification that isn't well known in the field.
I wouldn't do it.

CCM is the ultimate certification. It is a difficult exam and well worth it. It is required (at some point in employment) with workers comp and insurance company CM. It is a highly desirable designation.. go for it !! I am so glad I did.. it encompasses WC, UR, inpatient, life care planning... the gamit.. that is while it is highly desirable. Problem is: yuo need to meet the qualifications for it, they are stringent, you need to have the job descriptions that fullfll the requirements. Good Luck.. Go For IT

CCM is not always a required credential in the arena of insurance based case management....I can think of three national insurance companies hiring in my area that do not require the CCM as a condition of hiring or continuation of employment. Just want to clarify this for those interested in breaking into case management.
That being said, I still believe that the CCM credential is worth obtaining as it proves compentence in your field and provides opportunities for personal and professional growth.

CMCN is a credential that is a well rounded managed care certification. It covers case management, utilization management and quality management. There are two ways to be eligible for the exam--one is to complete (purchase) a home study preparatory course; the other is to provide an affadivit to the ABMCN board of directors that proves competency and knowledge in managed care nursing. There are several organizations that require either CMCN or CCM within one the associates first year of employment.

I have this certification I actually worked for Anthem in utilization review when I started the process. To advance at anthem this is one of the requirements. Dont be fooled that this is an easy exam to pass it is VERY DIFFICULT. I have since moved on to a position as a CM in an LTACH this certification gave me more bargaing when it came to salary. This course gives you all the information you will ever need regarding different types of insurance policies, managing pt care and quality mgmt. I highly recommend this course if you are dealing with insurance on a daily basis. If you do not do that as part of your job requirement you should wait to sit for the CCM. I will be sitting for the CCM soon. Hopes this helps.
